Frequently Asked Questions

Before your intake session, you will receive an invitation to join Practice Better (please do this!) and a confirmation email within 24 hours. Your intake and health history forms will be inside your client portal, please fill these out at least 48 hours before your appointment. You’ll also have a chance to upload any lab reports that you would like me to review before our session.

You’ll get a reminder message before our meeting, with a link to join the session if you’ve opted for a Zoom meeting. If you chose the secure chat option, I will meet you inside the Practice Better client portal at your scheduled time.

During the intake session, I will go through your health history and goals, and ask clarifying questions to better assess your needs and symptoms. We will also go through a few yoga therapy practices during your first session depending on how much time we have.

Within 48-hours of our meeting, I’ll send you a holistic protocol sheet through Practice Better. This plan includes dietary, herbal, and lifestyle guidance to support your symptoms and current health needs.

The cost of herbs or supplements is not included in your package. The intake form will ask you for your budget, and I will work around this when making recommendations. You can buy your herb recommendations from your favorite apothecary or I can order them from a herbal compounding pharmacy and ship them directly to you. All my clients receive a discount on clinical-grade supplements or you can purchase them from your local health foods store.

In your first follow-up session, we will meet again to see how the plan is going, answer any questions, and make any adjustments. I will also introduce some yoga therapy techniques and emotional healing processes. If you signed up for the Acute Support path and would like to schedule additional appointments, we can discuss doing so. I would love to continue to partner with you on your wellness journey.

If you have booked a longer package, in the future follow-up sessions we will continue to fine-tune your health protocol and will also dive deeper into the yoga therapy, emotional healing, and health coaching practices.

Please come to each session in comfortable clothing with any yoga props you need for the yoga therapy practices that we will engage in together.

Make sure that you have a strong internet connection for each session. We will meet together through the secure Practice Better client portal or via Zoom if you have selected that option instead.

According to TKV Desikachar, “Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process, where the care-seeker, with the help of the Yoga therapist, implements a personalized and evolving Yoga practice, that not only addresses the illness in a multi-dimensional manner, but also aims to alleviate his/her suffering in a progressive, non-invasive and complementary manner.  Depending upon the nature of the illness, Yoga therapy can not only be preventative or curative, but also serve a means to manage the illness, or facilitate healing in the person at all levels.”

In a typical yoga therapy session, we will begin with a check-in process where we will explore how you are doing now and connect you with your body, emotions, and inner thoughts. Based on your answers, I will then guide you through a customized yoga therapy practice that will incorporate meditation, breathing practices, movements, and specific poses based on your physical, mental, and spiritual needs. After completing the practice, we will have some time to discuss how you are feeling, what worked/what didn’t, and I might suggest some additional practices for you to do on your own before the next session.

According to Dr. Vasant Lad, “Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.””

Ayurvedic healing focuses on bringing you into balance with your unique doshic constitution or prakriti that you are born with. We will begin the healing process by assessing your current state of imbalance or vikriti, and then I will suggest customized diet, lifestyle, herbs, yoga therapy, and spiritual healing techniques to bring you back to your original state of balance or prakriti. Ayurveda is an energetic system of healing that honors your innate healing capacity and inner intelligence.

No. All consultations, sessions, and protocols are evaluated from an Ayurvedic or yogic perspective only and not from a Western medical perspective. These consultations do not take the place of a medical evaluation. If any findings suggestive of a possible medical imbalance are found as a result of this consultation, I will refer you to your personal physician or other licensed healthcare professionals for further evaluation.

Wonderful! I often work together or in conjunct with other mental and physical health providers. Everything that we do together can be an excellent complement to any other healing modalities you are engaging in.

Wonderful! I support your choice either way. It is especially important to know which supplements and herbs do or don’t work with your specific medications as taking the wrong supplements/herbs or too many supplements/herbs can exacerbate your symptoms and/or conflict with your medications. Incorporating a holistic routine also assists your body in metabolizing your medications properly and is an excellent complementary therapy.

The short answer: maybe! Currently, yoga therapy, Ayurveda, and herbal medicine consultations are not directly covered by insurance companies, despite the ample evidence that yoga therapy, Ayurveda, and herbs are a beneficial healing modality. Some insurance companies do, however, provide reimbursement for out-of-pocket payments, depending on your coverage. I suggest you call your insurance company for clarification. You may need to get a referral from a doctor who will submit on your behalf, but this is still subject to your insurance company’s discretion. You can also possibly use a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to get reimbursement for payment.

No. Any prices that are listed are for your actual sessions and protocol recommendations only. You are free to purchase your herbal and supplement suggestions from your favorite apothecary or I can have them ordered for you from a reputable organic compounding pharmacy. All my clients also get access to discounted, clinical-grade supplements.

Please make you are purchasing high-quality pure products from a reliable source. Triple check the ingredients to make sure there are no additives or dyes.
