My Journey Within
Hi! My name is Isabella and I am a writer, yoga teacher, and the founder of Surya Bella. I assist others in finding their voice and connecting with their true selves through yoga, meditation, and the power of the written word.
I know firsthand how unsettling it is to feel disconnected from your true self and to feel the need to hide your thoughts and feelings. When I was younger, I didn’t feel very connected to my body or soul. I spent most of my time partying and studying, engaged in mind-numbing activities. But when I was 18 years old, I went through a transformative experience during a trip to Israel and decided to leave my university studies behind in pursuit of a simpler and more meaningful existence.
My travels took me around the world, backpacking through Israel and Europe, until I ended up in a yoga teacher training program in Rishikesh, India. My time in Rishikesh was tumultuous, filled with difficulties and tough lessons along the way. But through all the darkness, I also found a connection with God and with myself. I slowly cultivated a deeper connection with my body, listening to my voice and honoring the inner being that had been buried within me for so long.
In a very real way, yoga saved my life. It rescued me from the depths of addiction and self-destruction, but I still experience struggles on my journey every day. Yoga has given my life meaning and has put me on a path where I finally feel like myself, but I know that my road has a long way to go before I reach “the end” (if that even exists).
In my journey of opening up and taking off my mask, I still struggle with building the confidence to share my voice and thoughts. But as Brene Brown says, vulnerability is the key to unlocking love and joy in our lives, and “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do”.
After opening myself up spiritually in India, I returned to America to complete my degree in psychology, biology, and religious studies in the hopes of creating a true mind, body, and soul connection. I now live full-time in India with my partner Yogacharya Sandeep where we run Shiva Priya Yoga Ashram together in the foothills of the Himalayas around 30kms outside of Rishikesh city.
What is Surya Bella?
In Sanskrit, Surya means sun and in Spanish, Bella means beautiful. The goal of Surya Bella is ultimately to share the light of knowledge and self-reflection like the beautiful sun onto each and every soul to help awaken them to their true self, their inner voice, and their purpose in this world. By combining Eastern wisdom and Western knowledge to achieve a union of understanding, Surya Bella aims to help you integrate all parts of your inner being, both the shadow and the light, to come to a more complete version of you.
Surya Bella focuses primarily on freely sharing written posts on yoga, spirituality, health, and wellness so that others can learn and grow from this knowledge. We also offer private yoga classes and retreats to deepen this experience, both within India and around the world.
Isabella, the founder of Surya Bella, also offers her consulting services as a writer and website designer to help other yoga teachers and wellness professionals share their offerings and further spread the knowledge and power of yoga, wellness, and spirituality.
